VEINS

The human body is a living canvas, where veins trace stories of time, resilience, and fragility.” My mother’s pregnancy came with a price which were varicose veins treating her legs like an actual canvas with a painting she absolutely did not like. Since then she has only liked wearing clothes that cover most of her legs like long dresses, co-ord sets, long shorts, and various types of long Indian clothes. In this project, I want to showcase that veins can be treated like an actual art and represent its forms and colors. Through my designs, I aim to translate the natural forms, textures, and hues of veins into wearable art.

Research

It will be a project where I will aim to show my mother that even those veins which she considers imperfections are also pretty and beautiful. I will also be relating my project to the texture of veins as seen in natural elements like in the plant roots, tree branches or mushroom textures through draping and color experimentation. This project also carries a message of body acceptance and redefining beauty because my mother, like many women, adjusted her wardrobe to conceal a part of herself that she felt self-conscious about. With this project, I want to encourage a shift in perspective turning what is often seen as a flaw into an artistic statement.
